Literacy and Insight in the Great War: Letters Home

Activity Overview

Students will be working in small groups to examine primary and secondary source materials that reflect the experience of the common soldier in the Great War. They will first view a short video to provide them with some context before focusing on a few individuals’ letters. The group will then pool its insights and create a short presentation on their findings. Individually they will practice writing a short thesis paragraph with evidence from the letters.
