Canada as a middle power: Continuity and change — The war in Afghanistan

Activity Overview

Within this project, students will be working in small groups to examine primary and secondary source material surrounding the impacts of Canada’s commitment to Afghanistan. After gaining an understanding of the context surrounding our involvement, they will explore specific aspects of Canada’s Middle Power goals and Afghan operations to answer the question: To what extent does Canada’s involvement in Afghanistan represent continuity and change in its middle power role over time? After presenting their answers to their classmates, each student will write a short reflective paragraph answering: How does examining continuity and change help us understand Canada’s middle power role in Afghanistan?
